About The Lion And Lobster
The famous Lion and Lobster is a classic Brighton pub. But if you take a trip through the corridors and rooms and nooks of the Lion and Lobster and you see it's actually five pubs in one. With each area and bar enjoying its own unique atmosphere and amusement.
Through the little front door and into the cramped downstairs bar you'll catch the banter of the locals and maybe a jazz band if you visit on a Sunday. The long curved bar serves all the usual beers you'd expect and local real ales from Harvey's and Dark Star. The Lion and Lobster is a drinkers' pub, open late, and no stranger to grand claims and tall tales from half-pissed punters.
Go round the corner and the pub opens up into a bigger space with tables and chairs. Dimly lit and cluttered with curios, this is the room for groups to sit around late into the night drinking and eating pizza. It feels old fashioned. It's charming. Like a speakeasy, it has no windows out to the world helping you slope away into your drink and company of your friends.
And then round the corner to pub number three. A narrow, dark room with a handful of booths. I imagine dodgy deals being struck here and break ups finalised, away from prying eye and inquisitive ears.
Upstairs to the first floor and there is a lovely bar and room that's more airy and pristine than the rest of the pub. This bar is more salubrious, almost like a private member's club. And then to the yard, a brilliant outside terrace replete with it's own bar hatch and televisions. Yes. Televisions outside.
And finally up out to the roof terrace, huddled away among the rooftops you emerge blinking. Picnic tables, a bar and the perfect place to chill after a hard day's work. The Lion and Lobster is a Brighton experience that's not to be missed.
